A small map appears on the left side of the screen, but if you get lost
just turn around and look for the glowing green and red pillars of light
to guide you.
Dragon Catching:

The dragon is not very hard to catch, it just takes a little bit of
patience. However, he will probably escape a few times before you can
bring him back to home base. Don’t worry, just follow him and lasso him
again and repeat the process!
